SHANI : Acrylic on canvas
Image size 60 x 50 cms ..Shani loves it! |
In the UK at primary school I always had little drawings in the margins of my compositions, I hope it added to the story and I think it did get me a few more marks! I loved to draw and paint but somehow this creativity disappeared over the years and didn’t emerge again until I went to Queensland College of Art to study Commercial Illustration. I then worked for MYER (QLD) as a layout artist designing advertisements for the Brisbane Courier Mail and local newspapers. I returned to Queensland College of Art to study Interior Design and loved the course but I never pursued this avenue of work. Later I gained a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration at Queensland University of Technology (Arts Administration) and then worked in the Brisbane arts industry for a couple of years. It wasn’t until I moved to the United Kingdom in 2011 that I revived my art skills and I attended watercolour Botanical Art classes at a local gallery for three very enjoyable years. I also tried a workshop at the gallery, Pet Portraiture in pastels. I had never used soft pastels before but I knew straightaway that I liked working with this medium. Back in Brisbane I continue to paint pet portraits along with acrylic works. I've tried my hand at people portraits but it’s the furry ones I prefer!
