For me creating lifelike pet portraits is such a joy. Pet portraiture allows me to create beautiful soft pastel portraits in detail and bring delight to people who love their pets.
It’s a rewarding and usually a happy event to present a finished portrait to a delighted client, occasionally it is tinged with sadness when the pet is sadly no longer with us.
I loved to draw and paint as a youngster in the United Kingdom and later completed tertiary study at Queensland College of Art after moving to Brisbane in the 70’s. In 2012 whilst living in the UK I reawakened my interest in art, after it being many years on the backburner, and became immersed in traditional botanical art. It was during this time I attended a pet portraiture workshop…I was hooked, I knew I had found my niche!
I’ve been working with soft pastel for several years, finding this medium ideal to capture the softness of animal fur, using mainly Art Spectrum and Blockx pastels on a Pastelmat surface. I use Stabilo Carbothello and Derwent pastel pencils for the small details. My portraits are created in a realistic, detailed style reflecting a true representation of a cherished pet forever.
Since returning to Brisbane in 2015 I have focused on creating pet portraits, so please contact me if you would like a beautiful lifelike portrait of your beloved pet.
